Swimming Program


Season 1: August - November

Sandvipers Junior Varsity & Varsity (Grades 8 – 12)
This squad trains four times a week and also includes Land training. The season culminates in the EAC and MESAC Championships. Selection is through time trial and try-outs are held the first week of the season.


Sandvipers Under 12 & Under 14 (Grades 4 – 8)

Swimmers work on stroke refinement and stamina and compete in some local meets and the EAC Championships. Training is two times per week. Selection is through time trial and try-outs are held the first week of the season.


Season 2 & 3: January - May

Age Group Squad (Grades 1 -8)
This squad is open to students in Grade 1 and above. Tests are held for lane placement and students must demonstrate 25m front crawl with rotary breathing, 25m back crawl, and be comfortable in deep water.

Training is 2 days per week, and swimmers work on stroke technique, starts and turns. There are regular galas and sign ups will be announced through the Principals Newsletters.

Learn to Swim (KG1-Gr.2)
This is a year round program for non- swimmers and beginners in the Elementary School. Lessons are twice a week for 30 minutes with a maximum of 5 students per teacher. The emphasis is on safety and having fun while learning the fundamentals of arm and leg movements, breathing, floating on the front and back and also underwater exploration. There is a charge for this program. Sign ups will be announced through the Principal’s Newsletter.

Alexandra Macaulay

I am a qualified teacher from the University of London, UK with a BA (Joint Honors) degree in Physical Education and History and before coming to the UAE have taught in the UK, Norway, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, and Egypt.

As a former national level swimmer I am passionate about swimming and believe everyone should have the opportunity to swim whether they are 4 or 80 years old!

I have been a swimming teacher since the mid 80’s and I am qualified in both the British ASA and the USA American Red Cross system. As a coach I am a qualified ASA Level 3 coach having worked with a number of national level swimmers and also an ASCA Level 4 coach for International Age Group coaching. I am an American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor Trainer too!

I gained my National Aquatic Directors License from Florida and have started three swim programs from scratch, in the UK and Germany.
