New Family Welcome Committee

Sara Lane & Jennifer Dempsey (Co-Chairs)

The New Family Welcome Committee helps make the incoming families' transition into the ACS community and Abu Dhabi as easy as possible. First, newly registered families and current ones are carefully matched as Buddy Families according to age, grade and interests and then encouraged to contact each other via email. Once here, the host family will introduce the new family to other ACS families, and provide orientation to ACS and Abu Dhabi. The New Family Welcome Committee also oversees the planning of the New Family Welcome Coffee, Meet & Treats, and New Family Reception.

  • The PTA hosts this Welcome Coffee for new and returning families soon after the start of the school year. This is an excellent opportunity to catch up with friends after the summer and meet new parents. You will listen to welcoming remarks from the PTA President, Officers and Committee Chairs, the Viper Club President, and the Parent Liaisons. Here you will also have an opportunity to sign up to volunteer in PTA and Viper Club events.
  • The PTA Meet & Treats is an opportunity for new students to meet their buddy families and other new students across campus in an informal, after school gathering.
  • The New Family Reception is an event for all new ACS families. It is a time for the adults to ignore for a moment the trials of getting settled and to enjoy a delicious catered reception in the company of their “buddy” families and members of the administration. Children eat separately and are entertained and cared for by the Service Student Coordinator and the HS Service students.

Reading Fair - September

Vidya Venkateswaran, Min Fang, Sara Bosetti and Chiara Capsoni (Co-Chairs)

The Reading Fair gives students KG1-5 the opportunity to share their favorite book in a format similar to the science fair. Students can use their imagination and present their story through storyboards, costumes, and props.

Stephanie Ray (Chair) & Raya Asfour (Co-Chair)

Snow Cone Sales - November and April, every Thursday after school

Children look forward to the Snow Cone Sales that take place every Thursday after school during the months of November and April. Look for the snow cone stand on the shady spot between the elementary school building and the Auditorium. This is a delight for the kids and an easy fundraiser for the PTA . Choose from assorted flavors and pay only AED 5 per cone.

Costume Central - October

Shireen Alameddine (Chair)

This is an event where parents can donate, swap, sell or buy gently used Halloween costumes. The event takes place in early October.

Fall Festival - October

Nada Prouty (Chair)

This fun-filled PTA-funded festival brings the ACS community together to celebrate the spirit of Halloween in a safe environment. The event's success relies heavily on volunteer involvement. Although this event is mostly enjoyed by ES students, the whole school participates. A student/teacher costume parade, themed games and trick-or-treating are just part of the fun. HS students run some of the games to fulfill their community service hours and organize a haunted house to raise funds for charity.

Holiday Extravaganza - December

Karine Morency & Dana Allen (Co-Chairs)

This cheerful holiday event, on a December Saturday morning, is something to look forward to for the whole family. Don't miss out on the Santa photo opportunity, the holiday market with vendors from the wider Abu Dhabi community, the games, and the arts and crafts activities. Don't be surprised to find the principals or the superintendent flipping pancakes for breakfast!

International Day - February

Neena Varma (Chair)

Organized by the faculty and the PTA, this event celebrates the diversity of cultures present at ACS. International Day becomes a festival of colors and flavors when ACS parents and students K-12 proudly parade their flags in national dress or colors; set up booths to display country information and souvenirs; provide tastings of ethnic foods, and if brave enough, demonstrate their folk dancing talents. All classrooms come out to enjoy this all-day event that has learning and entertainment programs throughout the day.

Meet the Board of Trustees Candidates Night - March

This is an opportunity for the ACS community to listen to presentations and meet the candidates before casting a vote for the Board of Trustees election.

Staff Appreciation - March

Tonya Dickenson & Neena Varma (Co-Chairs)

This is an opportunity to thank the ACS administration, faculty and employees for their work and dedication to our children throughout the year. ACS parents help organize an event to appreciate our hard working faculty/staff. A small gift of appreciation is also offered to all attendees.

Spring Fling - May

Jelena MacDonald (Chair)

This Saturday event in May is an opportunity to clear out your closets and sell your unwanted items at a garage-style sale. Tables are available for rent only to ACS community members wishing to sell their items.

ES Science Fair - May

Vidya Venkateswaran, Chiara Capsoni, Min Fang & Ashley Minto (Coordinators)

Get your thinking caps on and create an experiment or demonstration that will amaze and delight! Participating students can work individually or in groups on a science project and present it during the fair.
